  8. Oh brother, I guess I'd have to go with the scarf. They are both so cute! Love the pioneer woman cook book. A quick veggie recipe...cube sweet potatoes, toss in a glass dish with some butter, cinnamon, a bit of brown sugar (just a hair) and some cayenne pepper...roast for an hour or so! Sweet and spicey!

  9. Cute! I love the wall art! I can't offer a name of a cookbook off the top of my head so I'll give you my favorite side dish:
    brown rice with spinach and feta (you can skip the feta if you don't eat dairy - it's still awesome).

    Cook your brown rice as usual (I buy frozen and cook it in 3 minutes in the microwave)

    In a skillet, brown some chopped onion. Add some oregano, (salt if you want) and lemon juice. Then wilt some spinach (don't overdo it!). You could also add sun dried tomatoes or some mushrooms if you want. Just add them before the spinach.

    Add that mixture to your brown rice and stir in the optional feta.

    Thanks for the chance!

  20. I LOVE the Bird!! And the bookmark! Here's a recipe I just made tonight while entering giveaways! Delicious:
    need:
    baking dish-I used a 10 inch square one, buttered the bottom and sides.
    pot for cooking pasta of sorts
    ~~~ingredients~~~
    -can of tomato sauce-15 oz
    -can of tomato paste-small
    -half an onion-chopped
    -3-5 cloves garlic(depends on your taste) pressed or thinly sliced
    -salt and pepper to taste(sauce)
    -fresh or dried thyme- about a teaspoon or so
    Combine tomato sauce and paste in buttered baking dish. Then stir in all the other ingredients listed above.
    veggies:
    -yellow squash(small)-thinly sliced
    -zucchini(small)-thinly sliced
    -red pepper(medium)- thinly sliced & chopped
    make rows of the veggies, layering them at a slight angle-squash, zucchini, peppers(2-3), squash, zucchini, peppers, etc...until the top of all the sauce is covered. Push the veggies down a bit so they are half in the sauce, half out.
    Sprinkle with more thyme(fresh or dried), salt and pepper to taste.
    bake at 350 for 30-50 minutes-depending on how crunchy you want your veggies. they should be tender, but not burnt!
    -box of pasta
    while this is baking, boil your water for pasta.
    Serve over pasta with freshly grated fontina cheese(or parmesan, asiago, mozzarella, etc)
    It's adapted from a recipe here: http://smittenkitchen.com/2007/07/rat-a-too-ee-for-you-ee/
  69. The bird tree is really lovely! (Well, so is the scarf really, but I'm more likely to make use of the wall art.)
    My favourite cookbook... I think it changes all the time. I've been buying a lot of vegan cookbooks lately, but none of them have really sparked that kind of 'favourite' idea in my head. My favourite cookbook might be Jack Bishop's A Year in a Vegetarian Kitchen, though he uses a lot more dairy and eggs than I'd like. I've tried quite a few things from it, though, and liked pretty much all of them. (I just can't get behind anything he's done with coconut milk, though. I don't know what it is, but somehow I find the flavours really insipid and dull when he leans too heavily on coconut milk.)
    Can of rotel
    Can of creamed corn
    Can off black beans
    Can of white corn
    Can of diced tomatoes (jalapeno style)
    Dry pack ranch, dry pack taco seasoning
    Cook until melded (endlessly on low is fine), serve with sour cream and tortilla chips and green tobacco sauce or cholula..
  78. I love the bird embroidery. I don't have a favorite cookbook because I find most of my recipes online. My favorite vegetable recipe is called a summer vegetable tian; I'm not sure what that means exactly.
    1 tbsp olive oil
    1 medium yellow onion(I used a sweet onion)
    1 tsp minced garlic
    1 medium zucchini
    1 medium yellow squash
    1 medium potato
    1 medium tomato
    1 tsp dried thyme
    salt and pepper to taste
    1 cup shredded Italian cheese(It also tastes good with cheddar)
    -preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. finely dice the onion. saute both in a skillet with olive oil until softened(about 10 minutes).
    -while the onion and the garlic are sauteing, thinly slice the rest of the vegetables.
    -spray the inside of an 8x8 square or round baking dish with nonstick spray. spread the onions and garlic in the bottom of the baking dish. place the sliced vegetables in the dish, vertically in an alternating pattern. sprinkle with salt, pepper, and thyme.
    -cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. remove the foil, top with cheese and bake for another 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is golden brown.
    My family loves this dish; my 12 year old brother asked me to make this for his birthday. I also add 1 medium eggplant because its my moms favorite. Thanks for the giveaway!
  103. Oh my, the birdie is my choice. It would be so very perfect in my kitchen, near the little tile with the sentiment "Anything for a quiet life". Since we are in the kitchen, let's move on to the cookbook question. Right now my favorite is Lion House Cakes and Cupcakes. A great mixture of cakes that are easy to make but taste richer than that, and more complicated cakes that are worth the effort.
    I have a wonderful recipe for vegetarian cous cous which is too long to put into this comment box, and another for thai pasta which is absolutely delicious and quite simple. If you'd like either recipe, please just drop me an email and I'll be happy to send you either or both. Cheers!
  104. I love the birdie applique. My favorite veggie recipe is Black Bean & Quinoa Salad. Saute onion & garlic, add quinoa and cook in veg broth. Add can black beans & cup of frozen corn. Add cayenne pepper to taste & cumin. Chop up fresh cilantro and add. Serve over lettuce. Top with avocado and cheese. SO YUMMY! Thanks for a chance to win!
  106. Well, they are all awesome but I would really love that appliqué! - I'd frame it. :) My favorite cookbook is Clotilde Dousilier's Chocolate and Zucchini cookbook. My copy is literally falling apart at the seems. My favorite veggie recipe is actually in this book- sautéed zucchini and herbs de provence backed over a polenta tart. It is delicious! Also- she has a recipe for a zucchini chocolate cake- that should count, right? :)
    I'm hosting a giveaway on my blog for a pair of handmade earrings- please stop by!
    I like roasted potatoes. Slice them lengthwise into wedges and toss with olive oil and your choice of seasonings. Bake at 375 for 45 minutes or until tender inside and crispy outside.
  118. The bird is awesome! I love its sketchiness. I guess my favourite cookbook would be In the Sweet Kitchen by Regan Daley. There is a recipe in there for Maple Pecan Buttons (does that count as veggie?) that are so melt in your mouth delicious.
    By the way, nice blog. Just found you through Lynda's FB. I haven't seen you in forever. You probably dont even remember me. (It really has been forever).
