Click Clack, Tick Tock.

It's the middle of summer,

 and button flowers are blooming

while the appropriateness of cool blue wool
is keeping us dumbfounded,

but snugly.

Apparently, against my best intentions...

Yu gets a Phoebe sweater too.

With no one to hand it down to,
my old self would have said
it seems kind of nuts to meditate on each woolly stitch.
Each click and clack.
Each $ sign, for each beautiful skein.

Now that I'm a little more seasoned with the knit & purl,
I don't barf at the thought of frogging a mistake
(I even know what 'frogging' means!)

And what I used to think of as the insanity
 in time and effort spent
knitting countless strands together for no good reason...

Well, now this has morphed into
my understanding of
the very best reason.

Taking care and attention for someone I love.
Practicing patience and stillness in the midst of utter mayhem.
Dragging something soft and beautiful around
and practicing craft and artistry en route to play dates
or grocery shopping...

Well now,
that makes utter and the most complete sort of sense.

If life is such a flurry
and so much of what we do and say and buy
reflects this buzzing and busy-ing.

Then slowing down,
and stitching away for the transitory swaddling
of a wee-loved-one in a handmade knit,
this,

is the sort of sweet nonsensical sensing
I want to participate in.

This....is a stitch in between the stitches in time.

Apple Cozy? Ummm...

Yes. Phew. The apple is cozy.

I know you were worried there for a while.

I know you were thinking: she's knit all the
sweaters any girl should knit.

It IS summer after all.
(isn't it?)

The obvious next step is to begin with the produce.

I mean, poor apples.
No respect.
All naked.
I mean really!!!

Apparently,
the cosy apple cozies keep a washed apple
clean at the bottom of a knapsack
and protect them from bruising
during lifes more tumultuous moments.

But really, the cuteness, the ridiculousnes
the folly in each stitch for the apple...
well, that just makes me smile.

Liebster Blog Award

Well Shucks, that's cool.

I have been nominated by the very sweet
 Traci from Handmade Happiness
for a Liebster Blog Award!

Thanks Traci!!!
The strange thing is, Traci is not my mom.
I've never met her!
she just stumbled on my microscopic blog
and then said nice things.
(blush)

I pretty much assume I am hollering out into the void.
Very nice to know someone
(who isn't my sweetie, my dog, my cat, my weird uncle Joey Ramone, etc.)
is listening.
Muchos Gracias.

The Liebster is presented to a blog with less than 200 followers.
That is DEFINITELY me.
It's also mostly the 5(6) folks listed below.
Except for one who may have 204 followers,
but what can I say, I'm a true rebel.

I say nice things about them too.
Read on.

I Nominate these folks,
because what they do or say or make,
is awesome.
1. A little red ribbon- vintage eye and modern linen/ lace stitchery
2.Millicent Crow- hand stamped pouches and other lovelies
3. rosehip - crochet and vintage delights
4. Kreider's Korner- photography / Growing Edibles- yum
5. Fishes Make Wishes- colourful fun jewelry

I hope you'll visit these diverse blogs.
And thanks to the above, let the Littles rule!!

A Yarny Tale

It seems to be an annual tradition
 that each summer,

when the nipples thaw
and the sun gets everyone sweaty,

I decide it would be a good idea
to carry around bags of hot wool

drape them all over myself and knit bulky sweaters.

it's odd.

At least I'm not alone with my oddities.
Well, not this one.

Cheating my way to success.

a while backand it struck me as genius.
I may have actually pooped glee.

OK, that was an unnecessary poop reference
But, it's been that kind of day...

I have girls (noted ad nauseam)
and when I started sewing I made dresses.

I also got gifted a few,
and really before a baby walks
they are totally impractical.

But use the above tutorial to turn them into
 a romperoveralls, or baby zootsuit.
and function happens!

I dig sweet function!

I didn't make the above 'dress' but I did convert
itand now and Yu wiggles her thang,
revving her back end for new crawling,

The legs don't get caught up in dress,
and she's off!!!

And with a good little cheat,
this dress that got no love
is also off on an adventure!

Flowers Are For Dudes Too.

We have a girl house,
there is little debate.

3 short ones.

In

various

sizes.

But we love boys too!

And boys get a raw deal when it comes to flowers.

I know genetics are powerful,
and gender socialization
big time,
but seriously...

Who decided flowers were just for girls?

Balderdash!

Flowers are for everyone!!

We have a dad friend with a boy
and he loves to garden

Lately he's on a Dahlia kick.

So the shorty 'needed' this very manly
flower shirt to offset his
trucks and tough-guy hand-me-downs.

Ruff- les

I added a little doily

and a little ruffle

to Yu's dog onesie.

Applause!

Silly, satisfying, quick AND practical
(no really)
a little cushion on the butt has merit these days.

See ya later.

Inexplicably Happy

I have a thing for buttons.
In all their glory.
Love the shapes, the colours, the size.
I LOVE
that you can cover them with awesome material.

I love that they are functional
and fabulous.

But these buttons...

These buttons are my ultimate favorites.

I've used them on bags
and jackets
and still I can't get enough.

They make me happy,
every time I see them.

And so,
on the wall they go.

Now I can see them every time I walk into my studio.

Walking into a creative possibility
with a grin on your face?

That seems like a good set up to me.

What makes you inexplicably happy?
