I MADE A THING!

 Wahooo!!!

I made something!

I finally made Deila's pencil skirt

Taking photos of self
=
Impossible.

But what's a girl to do
(sidebar: except never make this face again)

It has a fun kick pleat.

It has pleats

And it's made out of this amazing
velvet, octagon upholstery fabric.

I should have made a muslin,
because it turns out
this isn't the perfect length for me
and it's a little big.

As I was trying to find a place for photos
inside, it became clear we don't have one.

After these snaps I altered my new skirt
by shortening it
and taking it in,
badly,
as is my tradition.

I've got date night with the sweetie.
maybe I should road test it ce soir.

We will see if I murdered this effort,
or improved it.

But,
I MADE SOMETHING!!

Phew!

Voodoo for You

Hola!

What you lookin' at?!

Is it the eyeballs?
They're looking at you too!

Lately my creative focus has been on food.

Only because it's one of the necessities of life.

And oddly,
my children keep expecting to be fed.

I don't love to cook.

Much of the time I don't even like it.
But...

I've decided that since I will have to do it
for a discriminating (ahem)
 family audience,
for many years to come,

I'd better find some fun and joy and
voodoo in it.

And what better time for the voodoo
than Halloween?

Also hot chocolate

and goats.

I mean, why NOT have goats
at the pumpkin patch??!

Gotta run.

Stitches to come.
(Here's hoping!)

Soon back to our regularly scheduled fun...

Still Here ?
Me too.

We've had lots of awesome company.
Cooking and eating and visits.
Oh my.

And now,

Let's

I've got Delia's pencil skirt pattern
cut out and taped together.

I've got blue & gold velvet
geometric fabric line drying in the bathroom.

I've got two stacks of lining,
folded and waiting patiently.

I've got 8 meters of black vinyl
off-gasing on the deck.

I've got duct tape pumpkin eyes
affixed.

But mostly I've been doing this lately...

How about you?

Quick Uncrafty Howdy Catch Up

Remember Me?
I remember you!

It's been busy over here in the Little World.

They have been getting bigger.
Quickly.

We had a 3 year old
rainbow birthday party:

And then someone else turned:

She wanted a big girl tea party,
without kids!

Fun times were had!

Not only did 5 bring birthdays,
but also Kindergarten.

5 carries a lot these days.

Meanwhile,
 the biggest girl
we took on a big girl surfing trip.

Her super fun 'fake aunty'
has been verbally bludgeoning us
since 2 seconds after Pu's birth with:
"...how 'bout now, how 'bout now...
is she still too young to surf?!"

Clearly the answer was not any more!

She got up first try and was
sooooooooooooooo
proud and pleased.

Pu is sure the sky is always falling,
so to see her surf into confidence,
verklempt=moi!

There were beach s'mores,
and comets to be seen.

It rocked.
(Thanks Sio)

Now, if only
I could get all these kids into school
I will have 2.5 hours x2/ week
 of new creating time!

Oh happy day!

Hope you too have been falling
into the leaves.

Boo Who?

You know those days?

Those days that first world problems
get ya down?

You know when the microwave breaks,
the faucet breaks,
your stove will not produce coffee
& your house is teeming with fruit flies,
(despite the traps you've set)?

You know when 2 of your 3 kids should be in school
but there's a school strike
so you bring the teachers cookies
to support them,
but then various children
yell
and
poo
and
fall
down?

You know how then it's
gradual entry for the 3rd child
as she starts preschool for the first time,
so you need to be with her for an hour,
but not with the other kids for an hour,
and you don't have child care?

And as a side bar,
she is on page 359 of her dissertation:
Why potty training is an abomination

Then you realize you're going camping tomorrow,
but you haven't slept in a week
because your middle child
is awake all the time?

And then you
yell
and
poo
and
fall
down?

Ya?
Those days are not my favorite.

The good news is
yesterday was nothing like today!
 Yesterday everyone was farting unicorns.
And we made this:

So:
I surrender today.

I'm hoping for camping fairies to load the car,
and tomorrow is definitely going to be a new day.

At least I don't have a wedgie.

So Many Shorts for the Short People!!!!

More cousins came through,
and the cuteness was pretty high.

Cousin Dance Party!!!!

And this has indubitably been the summer
of the shorts.

The more I make,
the more we need.

I want to marry the knit fabric
that is available these days.

It's so easy to sew with.
So forgiving and flexible.
J'adore.

So freakin' practical for little climbing,
jumping, wiggling monkeys.

Even pink ones!
What's a mom of 3 girls to do?
Periodically I surrender to the pink.

Always under psychic duress.

This has been such a fun summer.
I really don't want it to end.

Last summer I was counting the seconds
until school started.

This summer everything tastes sweeter,

and covers itself with sprinkles.

I'm still grouchy, and tired, and smelly,
rest assured.

But less.
 So much less,
 that I can make
lots
and
lots
of shorts.

You know what summer is?

Too
Short.
