  8. Oh brother, I guess I'd have to go with the scarf. They are both so cute! Love the pioneer woman cook book. A quick veggie recipe...cube sweet potatoes, toss in a glass dish with some butter, cinnamon, a bit of brown sugar (just a hair) and some cayenne pepper...roast for an hour or so! Sweet and spicey!

  9. Cute! I love the wall art! I can't offer a name of a cookbook off the top of my head so I'll give you my favorite side dish:
brown rice with spinach and feta (you can skip the feta if you don't eat dairy - it's still awesome).

Cook your brown rice as usual (I buy frozen and cook it in 3 minutes in the microwave)

In a skillet, brown some chopped onion. Add some oregano, (salt if you want) and lemon juice. Then wilt some spinach (don't overdo it!). You could also add sun dried tomatoes or some mushrooms if you want. Just add them before the spinach.

Add that mixture to your brown rice and stir in the optional feta.

    Thanks for the chance!

  20. I LOVE the Bird!! And the bookmark! Here's a recipe I just made tonight while entering giveaways! Delicious:
baking dish-I used a 10 inch square one, buttered the bottom and sides.
pot for cooking pasta of sorts
    -can of tomato sauce-15 oz
    -can of tomato paste-small
    -half an onion-chopped
-3-5 cloves garlic(depends on your taste) pressed or thinly sliced
    -salt and pepper to taste(sauce)
-fresh or dried thyme- about a teaspoon or so
Combine tomato sauce and paste in buttered baking dish. Then stir in all the other ingredients listed above.

    -yellow squash(small)-thinly sliced
    -zucchini(small)-thinly sliced
-red pepper(medium)- thinly sliced & chopped
make rows of the veggies, layering them at a slight angle-squash, zucchini, peppers(2-3), squash, zucchini, peppers, etc...until the top of all the sauce is covered. Push the veggies down a bit so they are half in the sauce, half out.
Sprinkle with more thyme(fresh or dried), salt and pepper to taste.

bake at 350 for 30-50 minutes-depending on how crunchy you want your veggies. they should be tender, but not burnt!

    -box of pasta
while this is baking, boil your water for pasta.
Serve over pasta with freshly grated fontina cheese(or parmesan, asiago, mozzarella, etc)

It's adapted from a recipe here:

  43. Definitely the tree birdie wall art! It's precious!

Is a favorite food blog a good replacement for a favorite cookbook? If so,

  44. I absolutely love the birdie wall art {swoon!}

I have a couple of cookbooks, but tend to gravitate towards "Best Summer Weekends Cookbook" by Jane Rodmell. It's a year-round winner in my house and my signature salad was from this book. An absolute winner :)

marilize (dot) paulsen (at) gmail (dot) com

  45. The birdie, although I really can't decide. That scarf looks SO soft!

The MOMYS (Mother Of Many Young Siblings) is my fave, followed by the Brady Bunch cookbook! LOL!

  46. I love the bird and tree prize. Here is the recipe I love - it is really good hot, or cold and is super with plum sauce or any sauce that you like. Hope you like it, we all do in our house.

  47. Oh wow - I love your art - this would be amazing on my wall :) Such a cute birdie. I have lots of fav cookbooks but teh Best of Bridge 'The Rest if teh Best ' is a good one as it take the best receipes from all their other cookbooks and put them in 2 volumes. I think they are a group of Canadian or American women who made lot sof cookbooks and were super popular in the 80's. My mom had every single one and wrote notes on each recipe she tried and she tried nearly all of them!

  48. I love the birdie!!
And give this recipe a try:

  49. my fave cookbook is a local cookbook that I have seen at used book stores in other places called the pioneers cookbook. done by the telephone pioneers of america mississsippi and louisiana chapters! My mom was one and before Katrina I had 3 or 4 years worth. Since I lost those I replaced it with Bell's Best which is a compilation! If you love Louisiana and southern food look for then cause they are GREAT!!!! Thanks for a great giveaway! I would love either prize!

  56. Omigosh, I LOVE the little birdy and whimsical. Would be very cute in my bedroom.
Thank you for the chance to win.

  57. What I find myself going to the most for recipes isn't really a book, but magazines. I love and collect Country, Reminisce, Taste of Home and LOVE the recipes they have. Simple, delicious, home-cooked goodness.

  58. I love your work- would love to win the scarf! My go to cookbook is The Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook by Zoe Coulson. Thanks for the Giveaway chance!

  59. Love the bird! My favorite super-simple veggie appetizer, Veggie Pizza, goes like this:
    1. Unroll 2 tubes of crescent rolls into a 9x13 pan and bake according to decorations.
    2. In a bowl combine 2 packages of cream cheese with 1 c. mayo and a packet of DRY Italian or Ranch dressing mix. Spread over the cooled crescent rolls.
    3. Very finely chop fresh, raw veggies such as carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. Spread chopped veggies over cream cheese.
    4. Sprinkle with shredded cheese over the veggies.
    5. Chill in fridge for an hour, cut into squares, and you're done.

    chibidani at gmail dot com

    peachstateme (at) hotmail (dot) com

    maria (at) dirtundermynails (d0t) com

  68. I love your little bird picture!! My favorite cook book is my good old Betty Crocker cookbook. I do find tons of fabulous recipes at also.

  69. The bird tree is really lovely! (Well, so is the scarf really, but I'm more likely to make use of the wall art.)

My favourite cookbook... I think it changes all the time. I've been buying a lot of vegan cookbooks lately, but none of them have really sparked that kind of 'favourite' idea in my head. My favourite cookbook might be Jack Bishop's A Year in a Vegetarian Kitchen, though he uses a lot more dairy and eggs than I'd like. I've tried quite a few things from it, though, and liked pretty much all of them. (I just can't get behind anything he's done with coconut milk, though. I don't know what it is, but somehow I find the flavours really insipid and dull when he leans too heavily on coconut milk.)

  70. I love the scarf! Thanks for the giveaway! Amy @ gasudimack(at)sbcglobal(dot)net

  71. I love the scarf! Amy @ gasudimack(at)sbcglobal(dot)net

  72. I would definitely take either of them, although the birdie would be my first choice. I think my favorite cookbook is a classic: The Taste of Home. So many great recipes, and some funny things in the older ones. For example, the one I has has a step by step, hand-illustrated section on how to skin a squirrel. -grin- Thanks for the giveaway!

  73. The birdie is adorable. My favorite cookbook is the original Betty Crocker cookbook.

  74. What a lovely giveaway. I'm a scarf girl so scarf all the way please! My favourite veggie recipe is super easy - saute some onions in oil, add black beans, some salsa, some tomato sauce, some frozen corn and a tablespoon of apricot jam. Serve over rice. If you're in the mood for chicken, you can saute some with the onions. Enjoy!

  75. Birdie!

Taco soup (most delicious twist yet, on the classic weight watchers meal)
    crock pot:
    Can of rotel
    Can of creamed corn
    Can off black beans
    Can of white corn
Can of diced tomatoes (jalapeno style)
Dry pack ranch, dry pack taco seasoning

Cook until melded (endlessly on low is fine), serve with sour cream and tortilla chips and green tobacco sauce or cholula..

  76. I would be happy with either. My favourite cook book is the little one my mum made me when I moved out of home with a few essential "Mum's recipe" Basics. It is in a little brag book photo album so I can just slip more in as I get them from her over the years.

  77. I love the birdie tree! and I don't have a favorite cookbook (much to my husbands dismay!)

  78. I love the bird embroidery. I don't have a favorite cookbook because I find most of my recipes online. My favorite vegetable recipe is called a summer vegetable tian; I'm not sure what that means exactly.

    1 tbsp olive oil
1 medium yellow onion(I used a sweet onion)
    1 tsp minced garlic
    1 medium zucchini
    1 medium yellow squash
    1 medium potato
    1 medium tomato
    1 tsp dried thyme
    salt and pepper to taste
1 cup shredded Italian cheese(It also tastes good with cheddar)

-preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. finely dice the onion. saute both in a skillet with olive oil until softened(about 10 minutes).
-while the onion and the garlic are sauteing, thinly slice the rest of the vegetables.
-spray the inside of an 8x8 square or round baking dish with nonstick spray. spread the onions and garlic in the bottom of the baking dish. place the sliced vegetables in the dish, vertically in an alternating pattern. sprinkle with salt, pepper, and thyme.
-cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. remove the foil, top with cheese and bake for another 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is golden brown.

My family loves this dish; my 12 year old brother asked me to make this for his birthday. I also add 1 medium eggplant because its my moms favorite. Thanks for the giveaway!

  86. My go to cookbook is the Fanny was my husband's grandmother's and then mother's and was passed on to our family when we got married. It is full of handwritten notes. My families favorite veggie recipe is for roasted asparagus. Put the asparagus on a cooking sheet with EVOO and some sea salt. Stick in a 450 oven let cook about 10 minutes and when they come out sprinkle with parm. cheese.
Thanks for hosting such a fun giveaway!

  87. Love the scarf!! As for cookbooks, I love any of the Barefoot Contessa books. The recipes always turn out well.

A great mixture of cakes that are easy to make but taste richer than that, and more complicated cakes that are worth the effort.
