Y...is for Yellow!!!

I'm almost finished with this madcap sew-a-long

Today is Y.
Not the big existential Y questions.
but just the cheery little ones.

I'm joining Katy as she stitches
through all 26 of the letters of the alphabet.

Today is all about yelling.
Yelling, for Yellow.

It's SPRING!!
It's here. It's really here.
And we made it.

Each year as the endless winter
fights for one more day of grey,
I hang on for the yellow.

This year we took a trip so I
was slightly less manic with the sunshine crave.
But when it came out...

Every fiber in my body exhaled.
And the happy dance was on a molecular level.

Pu, the biggest of the Little's
asked for a yellow dress.
Then it morphed into a yellow turtleneck.
Then it changed and changed and...
then she didn't want it anymore.

 Le sigh.

(Even though she looks innocent, I think she's probably thinking about perpetrating a wedgie.)

But we had bought this very bright,
super soft bamboo on a big girl date.

So I sewed it up,
and some sister somewhere will rock
the YELLow.

'Cause we made it to spring,
and it ought to be celebrated!
 Did you make it too?

I is for...Indecision & Inexperienced

I am playing along with Katy from
nobigdill.com as she
Sews through the 26 letters of the alphabet.

Today is inspired by "I".

Little Nu is such a wild child.
Covered in bruises and bumps as she
ricochets off the world and
leaps from each adventure she sees.

I'm always inclined to tuck her in
a little tighter than her sisters.

Or, in this case swaddle her
in the softest of Rae's Fanfare flannel.

She doesn't notice life's bruises,
she's too busy having fun.

I hope that stands just a little bit
for the emotional bumps
that life will inevitably bring.

The idea of wrapping up my leaper in
something soft when I send her out
into the fates, brings me a little comfort.

That's one of the pleasures of making art
with fabric.
Instead of a painting hanging on a wall,
these little fabric creations go on adventures.

They stay with my favorite people
even when I don't.
In preschool, at nap time.

I like to think that in a life full
of decisions and indecisions,

when the Shorties
 are thinking about planting seeds
or hauling life out by its roots...

these little fabric co-pilots
that I make with my inexperienced stitches,
will wrap them in
love, and comfort.

And possibly reflect a little bit of
mom's love and lightest thoughts
to soften the path.

No Slackin' in these Slacks

Back with a KA-POW!

I made some pants for the middle one
(Nu)

It's still swing time in these parts.

And never before was there a kid
who needed knee pads on her pants...

before she even puts them on.

Because with swinging comes
MUCH
flopping.

And,
never before was there a girl
who loved pink more.

So pink knee patches for Nu.

(Here she is paused for less than a second
thinking reverentially about the greatness of pink)

These knees have been taking a beating lately.

And as always with Nu's raison d'etre
racing into the world
involves lots of wipe outs.

So too have treasure pockets become vital
for this Magpie.

Everything is maximum volume now
she is 4.

She's always way ahead racing into the future.

Happily she still pauses at life's crossings
to let her sister catch up.

And boy, is Yu game to try!

Now that Pu is back at school
this gruesome twosome have more time together.

Their cahoots are pretty cute.

Suddenly the newly 4 year old
is trying leadership.

And although the tiny one thinks she's
always in charge.
She snuggles in for an invented story

Or takes time to learn the nuance in the scribble.

If I were to source the Magic Eight Ball
for a prediction on this 3rd girl in the 3 pack:

I'd say she's being well tutored at the knee of
the wildest one

And riding off
 in her own unique way
with a similar take-a-bite-out-of-life
verve

Oh 3-pack.
You're swell!!

And,
if you are looking for something awesome to do
check out www.nobigdill.com as Katy
sews through the alphabet.

I might try a letter or two...

Baby Bears Down.

Oh sweet Yu.

This one,
like her sisters before her,

isn't very sleepy.

The good news is she's
 pretty happy when she's awake.

It's clear she's hatching a plan
 and getting ready
to leap into the sister mix.

If only she could get a word in edgewise.

Honouring the secret society of babies
long standing tradition,
Yu is determined to out-Fox her headware.

She rips off her disguise

and reveals her super sneaky baby identity.

Foiling criminals, interlopers and
big sisters everywhere.
Stoic and a masterful drooler.
Yu: Baby Spy,
blends in to her forest surroundings.

And gums whatever unsuspecting
foil gets in her path.

The green version is for her little buddy,
who also likes to yell at 4am.

Peas

in

a

pod.

A race to the black sheep title.

These crazy kids:
More ears to love

I had to add the outtake where Nu
in an innocent attempt at a snuggle,
garotte's her little sister and starts a
harrowing baby domino effect.
