  1. Best thing I've ever heard a kid say: "Shake your groove thing..." said to me as I was dancing around with my almost-four niece. :-) I almost fell on the floor in laughter.

  2. Love those spiral scarves!

The best thing I've heard a kid say to me is "I love you". the funniest is my friend's little blonde innocent fella that keeps telling a joke about a pirate taht walks into a bar with a steering wheel in his pants, where the punchline is "arr! it's drivin' me nuts". LOL

  3. I love choice #1! It is gorgeous!
The best thing i have ever heard a kid say is"I love you with all my guts!"

  4. Love the plum scarf!

When my son was around 5 he told us one day that humans are made of meat and ham. Where he came up with something like that is a total mystery!

    ReplyDelete
  5. The best thing I hear my kids say is the argument on which one of them farted. You would think the farter would blame the fartless, but they both try to claim it like its some kind of valuable smell.

  6. the scarves are amazing!

the other day, my son poked my daughter with his toothbrush by accident so he said he was sorry. she insisted he tell her he was 'double sorry' so he went beyond on that and told her he was 'fouple sorry.'!

  7. i told my 4 year old son I love you to which he replied 'and I love Madison"

  8. Best thing I've heard a kid say?? Hmm... lots to choose from. But my daughter said something funny a few years back that I remember. She was 3 and her little sister was ~6-10 months. I was leaving for work and said: "I'm leaving for work! Who wants to give me a hug?" (She usually gave me hugs before I left) This time she calls out happily from the other room: "I don't! But maybe Dada or Lise (her sis) do!"
thanks for the chance to win!

  9. I love the gray scarf. My three year old daughter and I were driving over an overpass one day. She asked me what were the cars doing driving on the ground. I said, "That's the highway." She replied, "You mean the 'low-way', Mommy!" I love the way kids think!

  15. The other day my friend caught her daughter deep in a day dream. When she asked her what she was thinking about her response was "I was thinking about castles. Do you ever have castle thoughts? They're nice mommy." I just think that is absolutely fabulously perfect!

  17. Being a Robyn, I would pick the robin's egg blue scarf.

The funniest conversation I've had with a child was trying to explain how my dog is my baby, but he wasn't in my tummy.

    Thanks for the giveaway! robyn(dot)geddes(at)gmail(dot)com

  18. what gorgeous scarves - thank you for the giveaway :)

The funniest child-saying I have heard thus far was my little cousin's expression when she heard that my husband was allergic to cats: "It's just cats." So simple and unrealistic in her mind. Teehee.

It's hard to say what's the funniest thing my kids have said. My two year old son burped at the dinner table the other day and my husband prompted him, "what do we say when we burp?" My son's response was a literal "uuurp!"

  27. Thanks for the giveaway. I love the scarves…. one of the funniest things I heard re-interpreted by a child is the retelling of a story and instead of saying "twice", they said "two-times-twices" . It still makes me smile.

He ran up to her screaming horse (which sounded like w-h-o-r-e) and her parents got this look of shock on their faces. I had to of course, translate for them and in the end everyone was laughing.

  45. This quote came from my niece. I had been visiting with all the family when her son was not quite 2 and I did spend a little time babysitting so some of the parents could go out. After I left and went home my niece was helping her son say his nightly prayers and when he got to the end of who he wanted God to bless he also said "God Bless Thea Katina." (Thea is Aunt in Greek) My niece was flabbergasted, she had no idea I had made such a big impression!

    "If I were a boy,
    I'd have a willy.
    I would. Down there"

  50. Apparently, when I was about 3 and I did something naughty, as my mom was punishing me I turned to her and said it wasn't my fault because I was "just a little tyke from the old country"! I have absolutely no idea where I would have heard that, but it's still something my family says when trying to get out of trouble.. and I'm now 25!

  51. Not sure if it's the best, but it's surely the funniest: after Sunday service when the minister left the church in civil clothing, a boy asked him: "Where is the minister?" (To which the minister replied: "Hanging on the clothes' hanger in the church.")

  56. I love all of them, for the scarf plum or blue. And I really love that bag.
Weirdest thing was when I asked one of my gypsy students about his weekend..."Miss, my dad brought home a pig and we put it on the table and he cut it's neck and blood went everywhere and the pig started going EEEEEEEE! And then we ate it and it was good!" Found out from his older brother that it was all true and the table spoken of was in their tiny apartment. Funny, maybe...weird, YES!!

  59. I love your scarves! I think the cutest thing I've heard a kid say was when my coworker was being picked up by his wife and children. His youngest child - a little boy, probably 3 or 4, went running to his dad. His dad squated down to meet him and his son said "I've been missing you ALL DAY!" It was so sincere and sweet - I couldn't help but "Awww!"

  60. Hmmm, I don't spend a lot of time around kids. BUT, I think the best thing I kid could say would be, "I want to do my chores" or something impossible like that.

  61. Lovely scarves! The funniest thing from the mouth of a kid that springs right to mind is what my niece said at a recent family wedding. The wedding was in a Catholic Church with a crucifix hanging above the altar. 70. I must admit that little burlap bag is prompting me to rack my brain for the "best" thing that I've heard a child say...

I suppose one of the best would be from my nephews, who are nine and five, discuss pink:

9 YO: You know, pink is the most manliest color.
5 YO: Noooo! No way dude!
Mama: I think what 9 YO means is that you have to be comfortable in your manhood to be able to wear pink.
    9 YO: Yeah.
5 YO: Ok... well I don't have any manhood, then.

He mentioned that the windows had 'fog' on them thinking he was telling him something new. My son, 3years old, said, "That's not fog- It's condensation!". Still has me smiling!

  100. oh, I want to win the spiral scarf. Thank you for the opportunity.

The best thing I've heard was said by my daughter at age 10, shortly after I became a single mom and was driving her to Basketball practice, feeling pulled in many directions, both emotionally and by time and she was asking me question after question and I asked her, nicely, if she could just be quiet for a bit and not ask anything, just for a bit as I needed some quiet. She said "Oh Mama, didn't I tell you my new motto???" and I sighed quietly, inwardly, and said "no honey, what is your new motto?" And she replied "asking is the first step in getting what you want!"

Well, I sat there, thinking of the wisdom coming from my wonderful daughter and how I had often been afraid to ask for what I wanted.. and had often gotten just that, nothing.

I turned to her, over the seat and said "You are absolutely right, do NOT stop asking for what you want. It is wise to ask. And, if I can answer or help I will and if I cannot, I'll tell you that too, but DO Ask.

I've NEVER forgotten this and she is now a wise 30 year old, who taught me this and many other valuable things.

When I returned shortly after I was greeted with the following response - 'When I grow up to be a big man, and you grow down to be a little boy...I'm going to put you in your room!' He is now a wonderful man with two children of his own. Have just joined this site and about to checkout your paintings.

  105. Oh, do I have a story. My baby cousin (two at the time) had been taught some basic sign language so that she could properly communicate before she learned to speak. Well we are walking downtown past a few little shops. She always liked to see the mannequins so I stopped to let her take a look. On this particular day she had a revelation. She looked at the mannequin. She looked at me. Back and forth a few times. Finally she points at the mannequin and signs "eat" and "hungry." I laughed so hard I could hardly tell her that the mannequin was not starving, just skinny. Hahahaha. I will never forget that!

  107. Shortly before my son's 5th birthday, his little sister was born. At his birthday party, my husband told him to blow out the candles and make a wish - so he blows out all the candles, scrunches up his eyes and says out loud "I wish somebody would take that baby monster back where it came from." Everyone died of laughter. Now the two of them are inseparable. I would love the bag btw. christielamb1982@yahoo.com

  109. Before my 35th birthday, my daughter, who was then two, was telling everyone that her Mommy was too old. It took me a week to figure out she was trying to say two years old!
Now she just drops the thirty part and tells everyone that her Mommy is six! I think I like that one better!

  110. When my aunt passed away years ago I flew with my son to being with the family. My son was about 11 and said to someone who was crying, "Don't worry, she's gone to a better place." I was floored with his maturity and emotional capacity at that age.

  111. When my oldest daughter was 3 1/2 I heard her singing "Get up, stand up! Stand up for your rights!" to her sister who was about 10 months old. Merry Christmas!

  113. I was playing "mommy and child" with my daughter. I was the child and she was the mommy. We played eating, doing dishes, doing laundry ... and then the mommy had to go to work. She said good buy to me and I asked who would watch over me while she, my mommy, was gone. Her answer came straight: GOD!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  114. We were in church one Sunday and sang the Lamb of God. When we got to the last line, "Grant us peace," my daughter, who was 5 at the time, looked at me and said, "What did they say about Grandpa?" (Grandpa peace? I don't know what she heard...)

  115. When my son was about 2 years old, I was nursing my newborn daughter and he was super interested in my boobs which he called 'milks'. Then he lifted up his shirt and said 'I don't have any milks, just buttons (pointing to his belly button).

And here's another one just for fun.. One day my kids were being really naughty and I was losing my patience. So I kind of raised my voice without yelling to get them to stop what they were doing. My (then 3 year old) son looked at me in with a calm, sweet face and said 'Mama, why are you talking in a crazy voice?'. I just burst out laughing!

Love the fabric/burlap bucket! Thanks for the giveaway!

  116. Overheard while kids were playing last week...
Girl Child: Mommy? Mommy, is that you?
Boy Child (in what started as a squeaky girl voice and ended quite differently): Yes, honey. I'm here to tuck you in. And eat your soul! Bwahahahaha!

My girls would love one of the scarves.

  118. Well, unfortunately, I cannot recall and retell all of the amazing things that come out of my 4yo son's brain. There are just too many..we are always laughing at the things he says! One I can remember (because it was just a couple of days ago): my son wished on an eyelash, and after he blew it away I asked him what he wished for. He said "I wished I was riding a horse. A horse that farts rainbows."

Just one of many - if I remember more specifics I'll post them!

Love the basket, by the way!

  120. The scarves are lovely!
It was something my two-year-old did: I told her not to take her shoes off anymore. She went to her brother (he was sitting), put her foot on his lap started to take off her shoe. I started to tell her "No" and she put HIS hand on her shoe and pointed to him.
A quote (the only funny one I can think of now I know once I post this I'll think of another one) if the story doesn't qualify was my nephew was listening to the song "Human" by The Killers he said "Are we human or are we dancers? I'm a dancer"

  127. With four boys in my house I hear all kinds of things... I really should write them down as I forget them. Here is just a silly one. When someone asked my son what black coffee tasted like, he said "Ground up rubber duckies" I asked how he know what rubber duckies tasted like. He said, "Because I licked Simeon's (our baby) rubber duckie and that is what the black coffee tasted like." :)

  130. Your blog is just wonderful -- glad to have found it. Unfortunately for me, the only children in my life are my 6 month old niece who doesn't talk yet! I do, however, have a child to thanks for one of my favorite phrases. One day on the bus maybe 10 years ago, we overheard two kids whispering to each other and giggling. Turns out they were just saying "poopy chicken!" a little louder each time and laughing hysterically after each turn. I'm not sure what that was all about, but to this day, anytime something goes awry, I emphatically exclaim "POOPY CHICKEN!!!" (Try it. It's catchy.)

  131. My friend's three year old looked at her and said, "I'm smokin, mom!" We cracked up and later realized she was pretending to be pollution based on an old cartoon she'd seen in the library... she's a goofy kid, totally lovable.

  132. On a long car drive, my bored three year old son was staring out the window and told me, "You know Mommy, dragons and rabbits are very similar, but not the same."

    "Oh really?" I said.

"Yes," he said, very matter of factly. "Because rabbits will eat carrots, and dragons will eat ANYTHING."

  136. oh, I want to win the spiral scarf. Thank you for the opportunity. I posted a few days ago and when I checked my entry, I see that eblogger and google are not playing well together and my email won't show. So I am submitting here and will type my email in at the bottom, as I think you need it if I'm chosen to win.
