Fox in socks

These are funny, crazy, wonderful,
maddening, exhausting, beautiful,
grateful, bountiful times.

It was Remembrance Day,
and I'm so grateful.

My Dad fought in WWII,
my uncle died in it.
My other Uncle survived Korea.
I am so glad that someone else is protecting me
and hopefully making the world a better place,
especially for women and children in this world.

And I am grateful
because someone else has put themselves in
harms way on my behalf.

I have the luxury of not thinking about it too much.
I do think about the privileges and luck I have.
I can vote. I can work. I can attend school, and teach.
I can walk in the streets freely and expect safety-
mostly.
I can hope for happiness for my 3 daughters.
I can choose to partner with someone I love.
I can wish for them this same true partnership.

Out there, not far
are hundreds of thousands, millions of women
who fear,
and who are forbidden from everything.
From loving, from living with choice.

Thank you to those who stand up for the little one in all of us
and serve us, may compassion reign.

Oh these wonderful, magical, funny, bonkers sisters.

This big one had a fever yesterday,
and making her this fox cowl
has made her so happy-
it makes me happy.

I've been experiencing so much of her big girl lately,
that it's nice to have a few days at home,
where she is little.

I so wonder who this young person will evolve into.
Wonderful for sure...but I wonder where her journey will take her.

So many possibilities for this person I love so.

She is so observant and loving.

So lit from within.

She tells me she is not sure about this Santa character...

but absolutely believes in fairies.

I hope she keeps telling me all these things...

and the other things too.

She's also a worrier of the highest order.
And in these impossible times where the world is so full
of the tragedies in Paris and Beirut,
climate change and...and...and

I so want to hold her close,
and keep her little.

'Cause big girl times are coming,
the world in knocking hard on childhood.

I'm glad she's smothered in sister love,
and I hope they all remember to hold onto
each other, and these fleeting magical childhood times.

Rainbow New Year

Christmas came and went!

We tried to fight the good festive fight

and bring in the cheer.

There was mistletoe

and Santa brought roller skates
so that's all flavours of awesome.

First teeth were lost,
and fairies came.

But there was also pneumonia for me,
so cancelled parties and old timey swooning etc.

Let's shake that off and have a NEW YEAR!

And bring in more rainbows.

Quick

beloved

 all flavours of rainbow welcome.

I haven't made anything in so long

I almost forgot.

But there it is.
A Nessie shirt and a big

smile.

Mission accomplished.

Cheekiness has a leg up.

Look at all the deep thinking
going on over here!

Lately we're playing this crazy game
where all my children are rabbits.
They all have special
(and ever evolving complex names)
(thank you 7 year old!)

And what does the game entail you ask?
Come on, you know you wanna know!

These naughty rabbits eat kale.
And lettuce, and chives
and various other sundries
from our garden.

Score one for me!
Suckers- eating their veggies!!!!
(maniacal laugh, maniacal laugh)

(Blogged this shirt here 3 years ago-ack!)
In the meantime they are eating their
veggies in new leggings.

I've been making piles of GoTo Leggings.

Striped ones for Yu.

Striped ones with polka dot pockets
for Nu.

Birdie ones for "friend of Horse".

And a short version for Pu.

Then a long pair for Nu.
Birdie bottoms for all I say!!

I made that yellow top awhile ago
and blogged it here.

With more outside time my happiness
has grown exponentially.

There's more time in trees.

(Blogged about the above shirt here)

More picnics and games outside...

even if Nu doesn't play in the traditional posture.

Dollies get put to bed still,
but now it's in the grass.

And the garbage trucks roll through the weeds.

And generally just more happy
hanging around is happening here.

Watering the garden and transplanting
some of our still homeless plants
is a full time job for the "helpers".

And rabbits or not,
the cheekiness abides.

(Much like the Dude.)

Today is a good day.
Hope you're having one too!

U...is for Underworld

I'm catching up with Katy from www.nobigdill.com
as she Sews Through All 26 letters of the alphabet.

This post is for "U", and You and Nu.

Here's the resident mastermind:
Have you ever seen such a dangerous criminal?

Dressed in black and white prison garb,
after ever so sweetly requesting
a turtleneck just like her sisters so
they could share them.
(cough)

A diet of gruel and water,

she's bad to the bone.

Why,
if released from snack she
might continue kissing dogs.

and spreading her own nefarious version of
embrace.

Poor little Lego figure,
didn't know what hit him with all the smooches.

Some of those won't wash off after all.

(and our good friend Siobhan) says...
"To evil!"

If only it always came with pigtails.
